b. Australia, living in London
Informed by my Australian–Singaporean heritage and my recent experience of becoming a mother, I explore the hybrid spaces that emerge when cultures and identities overlap. Growing up in a mixed-cultural family and travelling between Australia and Singapore, my life has been shaped by movement and living across thresholds. This has informed my understanding of home, belonging, and the unsettledness that often accompanies migrant and mixed-race experiences.
My practice holds and attends to histories that have not traditionally been well cared for: the Dutch and British spice trades of Southeast Asia, the social histories of textile craft, lived experiences of migration and mixed-race identity, and practices of mothering and caregiving. My work is an act of archiving and bearing witness to these stories.
I weave together personal and collective histories, working with textiles, family photographs and heirlooms, mould-making, painting, and display structures. Singaporean Peranakan craft, with its fusion of European, Chinese and Malay influences, is a key reference in my practice, as is the textile work of the women in my family.
